Abstract:
Enclosed is a list of forty-five (45) wells sampled by Rock County personnel and analyzed at the State Laboratory of Hygiene for volatile organic compounds during 1987 to fulfill the requirements of the “Rock County Project”. The private and noncommunity wells were sampled around active or closed solid waste disposal sites. Volatile organic compounds were not detected at this time in any of these wells.
Risk for ground water pollution was assigned to solid waste disposal sites based on: 1. Proximity to industrial area; 2. Proximity to wells; 3. Assimilation characteristics of subsoil.
Sampling Program Conclusions:
- All wells sampled were not impacted by detectable levels at the time of sampling. Future well sampling and analysis may be necessary to determine water quality change.
- If any contamination plumes at detectable levels do exist, the intake of these wells sampled do not intersect the contamination plume. Plumes may be traveling adjacent to the wells; the contamination plumes may be above intake of wells; or the contamination plume may not have reached the wells.
